Under Julien Leparoux, Dominus got away with an easy lead in the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) this afternoon at Belmont Park and held off all challengers to post a two length victory.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, Dominus broke cleanly and was sent up to take the early lead. 4-5 favorite Adios Charlie sat tracking him in second, with Harlan's Hello, Tech Fall, Cool Blue Red Hot, and Malibu Glow following in the tightly-packed field. The pace was not quick, as Dominus was allowed to escape with moderate fractions of :24 1/5 and :47 4/5.
Turning for home, Julien Leparoux asked Dominus for his run and the colt responded gamely, turning back bids from Adios Charlie and Cool Blue Red Hot in the stretch to win in sharp fashion. The final time was 1:41.74 for the mile and a sixteenth.
Adios Charlie came home second, followed by Cool Blue Red Hot and Tech Fall.
