FLAT OUT WINS THE SUBURBAN HANDICAP!

Flat Out drove past favored Rodman in the stretch of the Suburban Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park to post a dominating victory in the historic race and stake his claim as one of the potential leading older horses in the country.

Under Alex Solis, the colt settled into fifth early on as heavily favored Rodman, coming off a runner-up effort in the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I), set the pace. He was being tracked by Colizeo and Hymn Book, with Convocation sitting fourth. Icabad Crane trailed the field.

On the far turn, Flat Out eased into contention four wide as Rodman led the way into the homestretch. Then Solis asked his mount for run and Flat Out responded with an incredible burst of speed, driving away to win by six or seven lengths in a blazing 1:46.64.

Hymn Book out-dueled Rodman for second.
