ZAZU WINS THE LADY'S SECRET STAKES!

Zazu came running late under a perfectly timed ride from Joel Rosario to win the $250,000 Lady's Secret Stakes (gr. I) by three-quarters of a length over Ultra Blend.

Rated in last early on, some eleven or twelve lengths off the early lead, Zazu slowly worked her way into contention throughout the race as Champagne d'Oro and Ask the Moon set a contentious pace on the front end. In the meantime, 6-5 favorite Blind Luck was also racing far back, but when asked for run on the far turn, she offered nothing and was virtually eased to the wire.

This left the race without a dominate favorite in the stretch, and a wild finish thus ensued. Champagne d'Oro was still on the lead at 40-1 and appeared to be on her way to an impossible upset, but she was passed by Zazu, Ultra Blend, and Great Hot, who finished in that order on the wire, with the former two drawing away late. Champagne d'Oro finish fourth, followed by Love Theway Youare, Ask the Moon, and the eased Blind Luck.

Hopefully, there was nothing wrong with the beaten favorite, who had previously never finished worse than third, but this definitely changes the complexion of the Eclipse award standings.
