Saint Vigeur breaks maiden at Gulfstream Park

Saint Vigeur flashed speed from the start and held off all challenges to win a 1 1/16th miles maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park in gate-to-wire fashion.

Ridden to victory by Javier Castellano, Saint Vigeur got off to an excellent start from post position one and quickly seized command of the lead, setting fractions of :23.63, :47.55, and 1:12.02 while being tracked by Tapulous. Freedom Child was right on their outside in third, followed then by War Dancer and Wabbajack. O T B Bob, Carson City Brew, Scipio, and Dyker Beach were the trailers.

Rounding the far turn, Tapulous and Freedom Child moved up to engage Saint Vigeur for the lead, and before long Wabbajack rallied into contention as well. Tapulous dropped out of contention shortly after entering the homestretch, but Saint Vigeur, Wabbajack, and Freedom Child continued to battle for command throughout the homestretch, with Saint Vigeur holding on to win by a length over Wabbajack in the time of 1:44.26 seconds.

Freedom Child finished third, while War Dancer rounded out the superfecta.

The winner is trained by Chad Brown.
