CAPITAL ACCOUNT WINS THE PAT O'BRIEN STAKES!

Capital Account rallied well from off-the-pace to defeat his stablemate Coil in the $250,000 Pat O'Brien Stakes (gr. II) this afternoon at Del Mar, giving trainer Bob Baffert a 1-2 sweep of the prestigious sprint.

With David Flores aboard, Capital Account got off to a good start but quickly took back and settled into the fifth position as Don Tito and Coil set a very moderate pace of :23.78 and :46.81. Camp Victory was right on their outside in third, followed along the rail by Bruce's Dream. Mobilized was the distant trailer among the six runners.

Rounding the turn, Don Tito began to drop back just a bit, allowing Coil to take command of the lead. Camp Victory was also looming a serious threat, with Bruce's Dream in contention behind horses and Capital Account gearing up on the far outside. In the homestretch, Coil put away Camp Victory and appeared to be on his way to victory, but Capital Account surged late on the far outside to secure a neck victory in the sharp time of 1:21.56.

Camp Victory finished third, followed by Bruce's Dream, Mobilized, and Don Tito.
