Executiveprivilege brought her undefeated record to a perfect 3-for-3 with another strong victory last night at Del Mar, holding off a late bid from Speedinthruthecity to win the $150,000 Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) by 1 1/4 lengths.
Ridden to victory by Rafael Bejarano, Executiveprivilege settled into the third position early on as Bares Tripper and Renee's Titan led the field of eight through fractions of :22.58 and :46.01. Switch to the Lead, Somethingabouther, and Speedinthruthecity were racing in mid-pack, while O Happy Gray and Wittgenstein trailed the field.
Rounding the turn, Executiveprivilege made a three-wide bid for the lead and soon took over, entering the homestretch with the lead and drawing off to a 1 1/2-length advantage passing the eighth pole. Speedinthruthecity put in a good run along the rail to finish much the best of the rest, but couldn't really challenge for the victory, as Executiveprivilege held on well to triumph in strong fashion.
The final time for 6-1/2 furlongs was 1:16.98. Switch to the Lead, Renee's Titan, Somethingabouther, Wittgenstein, O Happy Gray, and Bares Tripper completed the order of finish. The winner is trained by Bob Baffert and owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman.
