A Three-Year-Old to Watch: Bradester

Bradester looks bound for stakes company following an impressive victory in a 1 1/16th miles allowance optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park on New Year's Day.

Sent off as the even-money favorite, Bradester got off to a very good beginning and soon found himself racing in second as Good Tickled, and then Gunderman, set the pace. Following fractions of :23.76, :46.86, and 1:11.59, Bradester made a bid on the outside to challenge Gunderman for the lead and gained the advantage entering the homestretch. He was unable to really open up a clear lead, for Gunderman stayed on strongly and was actually cutting back into Bradester's advantage in deep stretch, but Bradester held on well to win by 1 3/4 lengths while stopping the clock in 1:44.02.

Cerro finished third after looming boldly around the far turn. Black Onyx, Wild Billum, Rienzi, Good Tickled,  Rossmoyne, Third Choice, and Amberjack completed the order of finish.

The winner is trained by Eddie Kenneally and owned by Joseph W. Sutton. Bradester is a son of Lion Heart out of the Grand Slam mare Grandestofall.
