Undefeated superstar Frankel will start in the QIPCO British Champion Stakes (Eng-I) later today at Ascot, his connections announced following an examination of the sodden turf course.
There had been debate as to whether or not Frankel would scratch from the prestigious ten-furlong race, which is expected to be the final start of his illustrious career. The concern stemmed from the amount of rain that had fallen at Ascot over the past several days, leaving the course labeled soft to heavy -- conditions which Frankel has never encountered.
But apparently, the turf course has remained in fine enough shape to allow Frankel to start. The Champion Stakes is widely expected to be Frankel's stiffest challenge yet, due in part to the course conditions and in part to the caliber of horses he is facing -- 2011 Champion Stakes winner Cirrus Des Aigles and multiple group I winner Nathaniel are among the major names scheduled to try and end Frankel's winning streak.
