Wildcat Red romps in Hutcheson Stakes

Wildcat Red, who was not entered in last week's Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) after coming down with a slight illness, regrouped to win the $200,000 Hutcheson Stakes (gr. III) by 4 3/4 powerful lengths.

With Javier Castellano aboard, Wildcat Red got off to an alert start at the beginning of the seven-furlong race, and quickly settled into the fourth position early on as Gambler's Ghost, Mighty Brown, and C. Zee led the way through fractions of :22.30 and :44.87 seconds. Long On Value and Pablo Del Monte were racing in mid-pack, followed by Spot, Trail Blaze, and Tashir.

As the field approached the three-eighths pole, Wildcat Red moved up to challenge Gambler's Ghost for the lead, then burst clear of the field to take command of the lead. Passing the eighth pole, Wildcat Red was clear by three lengths, a margin which he continued to extend all the way to the wire, which he reached in the excellent time of 1:22.21 for seven furlongs.

C. Zee finished up nicely to secure second place by a half-length over Pablo Del Monte, while Long On Value, Spot, Tashir, Mighty Brown, Trail Blaze, and Gambler's Ghost completed the order of finish.

Wildcat Red is a son of D'Wildcat out of the Miner's Mark mare Racene. Trained by Jose Garoffalo and owned by Honors Stable Corp., Wildcat Red has now compiled a record of three wins and two seconds from five starts, with earnings of $235,850.
