Belmont Stakes Update #1

It is currently about an hour and ten minutes until the 143rd running the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). The main track is currently labeled sloppy and the turf course good. The turf rails are set at zero feet. A couple of observations I have made so far today:

#1. Despite the fact that the main track is sloppy, the track is by no means slow. On the contrary, it is playing rather fast. It's Tricky won the one-mile Acorn in 1:35.48, Trappe Shot won the six-furlong True North in 1:08.86, and Justin Phillip recorded fractions of :44.45 and 1:09.56 en route to winning the Woody Stephens in 1:23.56.

#2. Front runners have been performing extremely well, with Justin Phillip and It's Tricky turning in strong performances on the front end in shocking upsets.

Animal Kingdom is currently the 3-1 favorite, with Nehro 4-1 and Master of Hounds 4-1.
