It's Tricky wins the Acorn, Trappe Shot the True North!

The first two stakes races at Belmont Park, the Acorn Stakes (gr. I) and the True North Handicap (gr. II) are in the books.

Over a track labeled muddy, It's Tricky pulled off a masterful upset in the TVG Acorn Stakes, tracking pacesetter Savvy Supreme before drawing away to an impressive 3 3/4 length triumph at 10-1. Heavily favored Turbulent Descent, winner of the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I) earlier this year, made an impressive run to reach contention at the top of the stretch but could not sustain her run, faltering to finish second. It was another ten lengths back to Her Smile in third, folllowed by Victoria's Wildcat, Snow Fall, and Savvy Supreme. The final time for the one-mile event was 1:35.48.

In the True North Handicap, Trappe Shot pulled off a victory as the 6-5 favorite. Under John Velazquez, the colt came on strongly in the stretch to defeat This One's for Phil and Calibrachoa. The final time was 1:08.86. D' Funnybone, Khan of Khans, and Wildcat Brief completed the order of finish.
