Brooklyn Handicap Selections

The 2011 running of the historic Brooklyn Handicap, won by such magnificent horses such as Kelso and Forego, is scheduled to be run in a just a few minutes. A field of five has been entered, let by 2010 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Drosselmeyer. He is currently the 6-5 favorite in what will be his first start at a mile and a half since the Belmont Stakes.

Eldaafer is another logical contender. Winner of the 2009 Brooklyn Handicap and the 2010 Breeders' Cup Marathon, he is a true marathon horse and should relish the distance of today's race.

Birdrun finished second to Drosselmeyer in the One Count stakes last month, is the third choice currently. He has never attempted to run this far before, but if he can negotiate the distance he could be a serious threat for the win.

Alma d'Oro and Afleet Again are the two longshots at 6-1 and 9-1, respectively.

My selections are:

1 Birdrun
2 Drosselmeyer
3 Eldaafer
4 Alma d'Oro
5 Afleet Again
