Olympic Glory rallied fast in the final two hundred meters to score a convincing victory in the seven-furlong Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Fr-I) on Sunday at Longchamp.
Ridden to victory by Richard Hughes, Olympic Glory was content to settle in mid-pack early on as Avantage led the way over Snow Day while setting a fairly quick pace. Indian Jade was next in line, followed by Tha'ir and Olympic Glory. The filly What a Name was back in the sixth position, followed then by Pedro the Great and Maxentius.
As the field made their way inside the final four hundred meters or so, Indian Jade moved up strongly to take command of the lead from lead from Avantage and Snow Day, but he was soon confronted by the rallying pair of Olympic Glory and What a Name, who were charging together on the far outside. Indian Jade fought on gamely inside the final furlong, but Olympic Glory and What a Name proved too good, with the colt edging the filly by a length for the victory. The final time over the heavy going was 1:25.73 seconds.
Indian Jade finished a neck behind What a Name in third, while Snow Day and Pedro the Great rounded out the top five.
Olympic Glory is a two-year-old son of Choisir out of the Alzao mare Acidanthera. Trained by Richard Hannon, the colt has now won four of his five starts, including a pair of group II stakes in England.
