Silasol upsets Prix Marcel Boussac

Given a perfect ride from Olivier Peslier, the lightly-regarded filly Silasol was able to pull off an upset in the $387,570 Prix Marcel Boussac (Fr-I) at Longchamp on Sunday, holding off determined late bids from Topaze Blanche and Alterite to win the one-mile turf race at odds of 13-1.

Facing eight other juvenile fillies, Silasol got off to a good start and bounded away to secure the early advantage while setting a moderate pace. Agent Allison was content to track her in second on the outside without applying too much pressure, while favored Peace Burg was tucked along the rail in third place. My Special J'S was also fairly close to the pace, with Meri Shika, Flotilla, Topaze Blanche, Purr Along, and Alterite trailing the field during the initial stages of the race.

The positions remained relatively unchanged around the turn, but about five hundred meters from home, Agent Allison was put to urging on the outside of Silasol in an attempt to take command, but the front-running filly quickly repulsed the the challenge and maintained her advantage. Then, on the far outside, Topaze Blanche and Alterite began charging as a pair, and both seemed to have the necessary momentum to surpass Silasol. But the latter filly dug deep and found something extra in the final hundred yards, stemming off their challenges to win by a neck in 1:44.62 seconds over a course labeled heavy.

Topaze Blanche out-finished Alterite to secure the place, while Flotilla rallied up the fence to edge Peace Burg for the fourth position.

Silasol is an Irish-bred daughter of Monsun out of Stormina, by Gulch. She is trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and owned by Wetheimer and Frere.

Earlier on the Longchamp card, mild longshot Wizz Kid rallied for victory in the group I Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp, rallying fast under jockey Gerald Mosse to win a three-horse photo finish that also comprised Mayson and Hamish McGonagall. The final time for five furlongs was 1:01.17.

Trained by Robert Collet for owned Maeve Mahony, it was the first group I win for Wizz Kid, a four-year-old filly by Whipper out of Lidanski, by Soviet Star. She has previously won a pair of group IIs in France and placed second to the exceptional Moonlight Cloud in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Fr-I).
