Mild favorite Banned showed a simply astonishing turn of foot in the American Turf Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs this afternoon, blowing past pacesetter Great Mills in the stretch to win the event going away by at least five lengths.
Under Garrett Gomez, the colt rated far off of a quick early pace, perhaps even fifteen lengths behind at one point. But turning for home, he simply exploded home, leaving his rivals far behind as he bounded home to a decisive victory in 1:42.95.
Close Ally just barely held off the late-charging Air Support for second, while Great Mills tired late to finish fourth.
