Diva Ash proved herself to be a talented filly indeed, holding off numerous rivals in the stretch of the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs to win the mile and a sixteenth turf event by about a length and a half.
Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, the filly broke quickly and went straight to the lead while racing several paths out from the rail. Favored Smart Sting was sitting in second, followed by Niji's Grand Girl.
The pace was rather slow, as Diva Ash carved out fractions of :24 4/5 and :50 4/5. Turning for home, she quickened away from her rivals and stayed on strongly to the wire, stopping the clock in 1:45.93.
Sassy's Dream rallied well along the rail to finish second, while Smart Sting just edged out Bonita Star for fourth.
