PLUM PRETTY WINS THE KENTUCKY OAKS!

Plum Pretty took the lead at the top of the stretch and held off longshot St. John's River to win the $1,000,000 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) by a head this afternoon at Churchill Downs.

Under Martin Garcia, the filly broke well and settled into second early on as Summer Soiree set a fairly quick early pace of :23.65 and :46.99. Joyful Victory was in a good spot along the rail, with Kathmanblu sitting mid-pack and Zazu far back early.

On the far turn, Plum Pretty advanced strongly to take the lead from Summer Soiree and entered the homestretch with the lead. Joyful Victory was poised behind her, but was beginning to flatten out. Longshot St. John's River loomed the large threat on the outside. Under Rosie Napravnik, the filly charged home gamely but fell a head short at the finish. The final time was 1:49.50.

Zazu came on late for third, while Joyful Victory finished fourth.
