BRETHREN WINS THE SAM F. DAVIS STAKES!

Brethren, half-brother to the 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, made his three-year-old debut a winning one when he drew off easily in the stretch to win the Sam F. Davis Stakes (gr. III) at Tampa Bay Downs.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, the colt stubbornly refused to enter the starting gate before the race and upon being released, broke a step slowly. However, he quickly recovered to race up into second position right behind leader Ribo Bobo as they entered the first turn. Those two ran one-two until the far turn, when Brethren easily took the lead with little urging. From then on the race was his. The colt drew off with power and dominance, winning eased up by daylight.

Longshots Too Experience and Watch Me Go finished second and third, respectively. Beamer ran fourth.

The final time was 1:45.07. Monzon, Litigate, Ribo Bobo, Washington's Rules, Adulare, and Reprized Halo completed the order of finish.
