Cal Nation turned in perhaps the most impressive performance by a three-year-old this Saturday, drawing away in the stretch to win a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park in 1:22.02.
Under John Velazquez, the Todd Pletcher-trainee tracked the early pace set by Jack London, who carved out fractions of :22.33 and a half in :45.07. Turning for home, Cal Nation made his bid for the lead and blew past Jack London before drawing away to win by five or six lengths.
This is a colt with a future!
