Big Drama, winner of the 2010 Breeders' Cup Sprint, prevailed in yet another race this evening: the race for the Eclipse award as Champion Male Sprinter.
It was not as close as many expected it to be. Majesticperfection, who had soundly beaten Big Drama in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (gr. I) before being retired with an injury, was expected to make it a close vote. But Big Drama ended up winning the award by over a hundred votes, with Majesticperfection finishing second.
Big Drama's victory in the Breeders' Cup and second in the Vanderbilt were not the only races that propelled him to the championship. He also won the Smile Sprint Handicap (gr. II), Ponche Handicap, and finished second in the Forego (gr. I). He may be on his way to a 2011 championship season as well, based on his track record-breaking performance in the Mr. Prospector Handicap just a couple days ago at Gulfstream Park.
