Gio Ponti, whose brilliant season in 2009 earned him the Eclipse award as both Champion Turf Male and Champion Older Male, was awarded a second Turf Male championship at the Eclipse awards ceremony tonight.
Gio Ponti won only two of his seven races this year, but finished second in four of them, including the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. I) behind Goldikova and the Arlington Million (gr. I) behind Debussy.
Shadwell Mile (gr. I) and Manhattan Handicap (gr. I) were his two victories. Dangerous Midge, upset winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf, finished second in the voting.
