LOOKIN AT LUCKY: CHAMPION 3yo MALE

Lookin at Lucky was far from lucky this year. Disastrous trips compromised his chances at winning both the Kentucky Derby and Santa Anita Derby. But he managed to put it all together later in the year as he rallied to victories in the Preakness Stakes, Haskell Invitational, and Indiana Derby. In the end, his unlucky year ended happy with a victory at the Eclipse awards as the Champion 3yo male, where he received all but six of the votes.

The award enabled him to become the first horse since Spectacular Bid in 1979 to be declared a champion at both two and three-years-old. Not too bad!

Eskendereya finished second, with Drosselmeyer third.
