GAME ON DUDE WINS THE SANTA ANITA HANDICAP!

In one of the roughest runnings of the grade I, $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap in recent memory, Game On Dude prevailed in a thrilling stretch duel to win the biggest race of the meet by a very short nose.

Ridden by Chantel Sutherland, Game On Dude sat well off of the early pace set by First Dude. Twirling Candy was poised a few lengths off of the pace, but didn't quite seem to be running as well as he had earlier in the meet.

Turning for home, Game On Dude, Twirling Candy, and Setsuko turned for home together. Any one of them could win. Some serious bumping occurred in the stretch, with Twirling Candy getting the worst of it. Twirling Candy fell back in deep stretch, leaving Game On Dude and Setsuko to duel it out to the wire. Setsuko held a narrow lead, but Game On Dude proved courageous in the stretch and came back to win by a nose.

Quindici Man at 65-1 finished third, with Soul Candy rallying for fourth. Twirling Candy and First Dude, the two favorites, ran out of the money. The final time was a very sharp 1:59.47.

The $1 superfecta paid an incredible $48,248!
