Wilburn turned in a scintillating performance in the second race at Santa Anita this afternoon, blowing away his rivals in the 6-1/2 furlong maiden special weight en route to a daylight victory.
Ridden by Mike Smith, the colt sat third behind a quick early pace set by heavily favored Chico d'Oro and Rock So Hard before passing them on the turn. It was his race after that, as he drew away to win by about five lengths.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, the colt completing the race in 1:13.95. Purely Awesome finished second, with Chico d'Oro fading to third. Smug ran fourth.
