A THREE-YEAR-OLD TO WATCH: DANCE CITY

The third race at Gulfstream Park yielded some fascinating results. A one-mile allowance race for three-year-old colts, the 1-5 favorite was Cal Nation. The colt had broken his maiden going seven furlongs very impressively earlier in the meet and was expected to turn in another dominating performance today.

However, his stablemate Dance City had other ideas. Ridden by Javier Castellano, the colt went straight to the lead and set a very quick pace. Cal Nation was tracking him on the outside, with Bowman's Causeway not far behind. I'm Steppin' It Up was in fourth, followed by Cane Garden Bay and Red Hills.

Turning for home, Cal Nation raced up and took the lead from Dance City. When jockey John Velazquez looked over both shoulders, it looked like Cal Nation would be the easy winner. But Dance City gamely battled on along the rail and in a head-bobbing finish, won by a nose in 1:36.93. Bowman's Causeway finished a strong third, followed by Red Hill.
