43-1 shot Watch Me Go pulled off an incredible upset in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III), charging up on the far outside to defeat 86-1 shot Crimson Knight in a head bobbing finish.
Ridden by Luis Garcia, the colt sat third early behind a moderate pace set by Crimson Knight. Heavily favored -- and previously undefeated -- Brethren was sitting on the outside in second. Those three would run 1-2-3 all the way around the track.
Brethren made his bid for the lead coming down the backstretch. He took the lead from Crimson Knight and appeared to be on his way to victory, but both Crimson Knight and Watch Me Go challenged him on the far turn and passed him in the stretch. They drove to the finish heads apart, with Watch Me Go winning narrowly.
Brethren finished third, followed by Beamer.
