BOURBON COURAGE WINS THE SUPER DERBY!

Bourbon Courage turned in a tremendous rally in the Louisiana Downs homestretch to win the $500,000 Super Derby (gr. II) by a dominating five lengths, crushing his opposition in a fashion that suggested he could be a very nice horse indeed.

Ridden to victory by Leandro Goncalves, Bourbon Courage was last away from the starting gate and soon found himself racing in eighth as Blueskiesnrainbows and Hero of Order dueled through fractions of :23.14 and :47.19. Mr. Bluegrass Music and Master Rick were next in line, followed by Key Donation, Tensas Cold Front, Fly Lexis Fly, Bourbon Courage, and Rousing Sermon.

Rounding the final turn, Blueskiesnrainbows and Hero of Order began to tire, allowing Master Rick to seize command of the lead. But Bourbon Courage was putting in a terrific run on the far outside, sweeping past horses on the far outside. His momentum carried him into the lead passing the eighth pole, and from there, the race was his. The final margin of victory was five lengths, and the final time was 1:51.40 seconds.

Fly Lexis Fly put in a strong rally to finish second over Master Rick, who in turn finished a neck in front of Rousing Sermon. Tensas Cold Front, Hero of Order, Blueskiesnrainbows, Key Donation, and Mr Bluegrass Music completed the order of finish.

The winner is trained by Kellyn Gorder and owned by Bourbon Lane Stable and Wayne Lynn.
