Reneesgotzip stamped herself as a serious contender for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (gr. I) later this year when she dominated her rivals in the $85,000 C.E.R.F. Stakes this afternoon at Del Mar.
Ridden to victory by Garrett Gomez, Reneesgotzip got off to an exceptional start and quickly opened up a two-length advantage over her rivals while running the opening quarter mile of the six-furlong race in :21.97 seconds. Sizzling Gold and Pink Lollipops were her closest pursuers, while Byrama, Givine, Jet Blue Girl, Elvies Lane, and Candrea were the early trailers.
Reneesgotzip continued her showcase of speed through a half-mile in :44.43 and entered the homestretch with a decisive 2 1/2-length lead. Byrama made a decent effort to try and close the gap, but simply couldn't match strides with the leader, who coasted through her final furlong in under twelve seconds to win the race by 3 1/4 lengths. The final time was a blazing 1:08.23 seconds, just 0.06 seconds off of the track record.
Byrama finished another 3 1/4 lengths clear of Jet Blue Girl, who rallied to defeat Pink Lollipops for the show spot. Candrea, Givine, Sizzling Gold, and Elvies Lane completed the order of finish.
The winner is trained by Peter Miller and owned by the Lanni Family Trust.
