Favored Emcee secured his first stakes victory this afternoon at Saratoga when he burst clear of six rivals to win the $500,000 Forego Stakes (gr. I) by four or five dominating lengths.
Ridden to victory by Alan Garcia, Emcee was quick into stride and soon found himself racing in second, a little less than a length behind pace-setting Pacific Ocean, who rattled off the opening half-mile in :45.38 seconds with Joel Rosario aboard. Jersey Town was showing speed along the inside, with Hamazing Destiny also up close while racing three-wide. Isn't He Perfect, Caixa Eletronica, and Jackson Bend were the early trailers.
Turning for home, Emcee made his bid for the lead, but so too did Jersey Town, who shot through along the inside to loom a serious threat. However, Emcee quickly turned back his challenge, striding away powerfully to win the race in decisive fashion, stopping the clock for seven furlongs in an exceptional 1:21 flat.
Hamazing Destiny rallied on the outside to secure second in a photo finish over Jersey Town, while Caixa Eletronica rounded out the superfecta. The winner is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and owned by Godolphin Racing.
