SNOW FAIRY WINS THE IRISH CHAMPION STAKES

The spectacular filly Snow Fairy picked up yet another prestigious group I victory when she rallied past favored Nathaniel in the Leopardstown homestretch to win the $969,000 Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I) by one length.

Ridden to victory by Frankie Dettori, Snow Fairy was content to race off of the early pace set by Daddy Long Legs. Nathaniel was also fairly close to the pace, while St. Nicholas Abbey was toward the rear of the six-horse field.

Rounding the final bend, Nathaniel made a bold run to seize command of the lead from Daddy Long Legs and appeared to be on his way to victory. However, Snow Fairy was in the process of putting in a terrific rally on the outside, and she soon overtook Nathaniel before drawing away late to win by a determined length. St. Nicholas Abbey put in a strong bid to finish third, a length behind Nathaniel.

The winner is trained by Ed Dunlop.
