AMIE'S DINI WINS THE MARTHA WASHINGTON STAKES!

Amie's Dini pulled off an upset in Oaklawn's $75,000 Martha Washington Stakes for three-year-old fillies, rallying past 1-2 favorite Now I Know turning for home to win by two lengths.

Under jockey Jon Court, Amie's Dini broke quickly from gate six and grabbed the early lead. Now I Know, who was previously undefeated in six starts, got off to a poor beginning but quickly recovered to take the lead from Amie's Dini moving into the first turn. Devious Intent was back in third toward the rail, followed by Soonerette, first-time starter Colonial Empress, and Lulu Wong.

Following fractions of :23.42 and :47.62, the field moved into the final turn and Amie's Dini moved up to put the pressure on Now I Know, who responded to the challenge gamely. The duo began to pull away from the rest of the field, while Lulu Wong began a run from the back of the pack.

Entering the homestretch Amie's Dini stuck her head in front and began to pull away from the heavy favorite. Now I Know gamely tried to battle back, but was beginning to tire and could not regain the lead. Amie's Dini stopped the clock for the one-mile distance in 1:38.72.

Now I Know finished second, while Lulu Wong and Colonial Empress completed the superfecta. The winner is trained by Ronald Moquett and now has a record of 5-3-1-1.
