SABERCAT RETURNS TO THE WORK TAB

Sabercat, winner of the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) last November, returned to the work tab for the first time since then on February 6th when he breezed a half-mile in :48 3/5 at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, the colt got off to a slow start last year, losing his first three starts, but then put together a three-race winning streak to conclude his juvenile campaign. After breaking his maiden by a half-length over My Adonis -- who has since finished third behind Algorithms and champion Hansen in the Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) -- Sabercat won Monmouth's Garden State Stakes by six lengths before drawing away to a dominating four-length victory in the Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes.

By Bluegrass Cat out of the Forty Niner mare Miner's Blessing, Sabercat is expected to make his three-year-old debut sometime in March, possibly in the $300,000 San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita on March 10th.
