FED BIZ WINS A SANTA ANITA ALLOWANCE RACE!

Fed Biz may have earned himself a start in a graded stakes race next time out when he blew away a talented field in a one-mile, $58,000 allowance optional claiming race this afternoon at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Rafael Bejarano, the three-year-old son of Giant's Causeway got off to a good start from the far outside post position in a field of five and raced away to track the early pace set by Consulado. Blueskiesnrainbows was back behind them in third, followed by Tones and Super Candy.

The pace was quick early on, with Consulado running the opening quarter mile in :21.95 before slowing the pace down just a bit to run the half in :45.50. Fed Biz was about a length behind in second, and those two turned the race into a virtually match race around the far turn as they pulled away from the rest of the field.

Following three-quarters of a mile in 1:10.03, Fed Biz and Consulado were locked together with little between them, with a thrilling stretch duel seemingly awaiting. However, Fed Biz soon took the advantage and began to pull away from his game rival. Slowly at first, then faster, Fed Biz inched away while running seven furlongs in 1:22.17 before drawing off late to win by four or five lengths in a sharp 1:34.74.

Consulado finished much the best of the rest, while Blueskiesnrainbows, Tones, and Super Candy completed the order of finish.

Trained by Bob Baffert and owned by Kaleem Shah Inc., Fed Biz now has a record of two wins in three starts. The San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) on March 10th could potentially be his next race, although the possibility exists that he could ship out of town to run in a race like the $500,000 Rebel Stakes (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park.
