SINGLET WINS THE DEARLY PRECIOUS STAKES!

Narrowly favored Singlet scored a narrow victory in the Dearly Precious Stakes this afternoon at Aqueduct, defeating Corderosa by a neck after a thrilling stretch duel.

Ridden by Cornelio Velaszquez, Singlet settled on to the outside in third early on, but no more than a length off of the early pace set by Corderosa and Well Kept, who ran the opening quarter mile of the six-furlong race in :23.47. Lisa T., the longshot at 8-1 in the four-horse field, trailed the leaders by five lengths down the backstretch.

Rouding the far turn Well Kept poked her nose in front of Ponderosa after a half-mile in :47.15, but Singlet was moving up on the outside and the trio entered the homestretch seperated by little more than a head. Well Kept soon dropped out of contention, but Singlet and Ponderosa put on a show as they battled each other all the way to the finish. In the end, Singlet secured the victory in courageous fashion, stopping the clock in 1:11.62.

Lisa T. came on mildly to finish third, with Well Kept finishing last. The winner is trained by Anthony Dutrow and brought her record to fours wins and a second from five starts, including three straight victories culminating with today's victory.
