DANEDREAM WINS THE KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES!

Last year's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) winner Danedream added another prestigious victory to her record today in the Betfair King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Eng-I) at Ascot, rallying past favored Nathaniel to win the twelve-furlong race by a nose.

Ridden to victory by Andrasch Starke, Danedream settled into the fifth position early on as Robin Hood led the ten-horse field by about three lengths. Dunaden and Brown Panther were tracking him in second and third, while Nathaniel and Danedream were the next pair in line. St. Nicholas Abbey, runner-up in this race last year to Nathaniel, was surprisingly far off of the early pace.

As the field made their way inside the final furlongs, Dunaden and Brown Panther moved up to seize command of the lead from Robin Hood, but both were quickly passed by Nathaniel, who rallied past them with a strong bid. However, Danedream was rallying even faster on the far outside, and the four-year-old filly finished up with a terrific burst of speed to grab the victory in the final yards.

Nathanial finished second, 1 1/2 lengths clear of the late-running St. Nicholas Abbey, with Reliable Man completing the superfecta. Sea Moon, winner of the Hardwicke Stakes (Eng-II) last time out, never threatened.
