Favored Switch found her way back to the winner's circle for the first time since January 2011 when she charged past Sugarinthemorning to win the $200,000 A Gleam Handicap (gr. II) this afternoon at Betfair Hollywood Park by nearly two lengths.
Ridden to victory by Garrett Gomez, Switch settled into last place early on as Izzy Rules, American Lady, Mildly Offensive, Sugarinthemorning, and Teddy's Promise all vied for the early lead, with Glamorista several lengths back and ahead of only Switch.
Rounding the turn, Mildly Offensive gave way along the rail, and Sugarinthemorning moved up to challenge for command of the race. In the meantime, Switch was in the process of unleashing a powerful bid on the outside, a bid that would eventually carry her to a sharp victory.
Sugarinthemorning finished second, followed by Glamorista, American Lady, Teddy's Promise, Izzy Rules, and Mildly Offensive. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:24.37.
The winner is owned by C R K Stable and trained by John Sadler.
