FORT LOUDON WINS THE CARRY BACK STAKES!

Five-time stakes winner Fort Loudon added a sixth stakes victory to his record this afternoon in the $150,000 Carry Back Stakes (gr. III), wearing down heavily favored Trinniberg in the final strides to win the six-furlong event by a head.

Ridden to victory by Fernando Jara, Fort Loudon broke quickest of all in a field of five, but was beaten to the lead by three-time graded stakes winner Trinniberg, who was coming off of a victory in the Woody Stephens Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park. Those two quickly drew clear of the other five runners while racing the opening quarter mile in :22 seconds flat. Rex's Last Tour was racing in the third position, followed distantly by It Takes Heart and Angelofdistinction.

Trinniberg and Fort Loudon continued to extend their advantage around the turn, opening up an advantage of at least ten or twelve lengths following a half-mile in :44 3/5. Entering the homestretch, Trinniberg was briefly able to kick away from Fort Loudon, but the latter colt came back strongly in the final sixteenth of a mile to secure a narrow victory, stopping the clock in 1:10 2/5.

Angelofdistinction rallied mildly for third, but was never a threat to the top two finishers. Rex's Last Tour and It Takes Heart completed the order of finish.
