Prospective added a third graded stakes victory to his record this afternoon at Thistledown racecourse, rallying past Politicallycorrect to win the 78th running of the $100,000 Ohio Derby (gr. III).
Ridden to victory by Jermaine Bridgmohan, Prospective settled into the third position early in a field of four, about three lengths off the pace set by Politicallycorrect and Z Rockstar, who rattled off fractions of :23.82 and :48.62. Defiant Flyer was content to trail.
As the field made their way around the far turn, Prospective moved up three-wide to challenge for the lead, and for a few strides, he, Politicallycorrect, and Z Rockstar were locked together in a battle for the lead. However, Prospective was soon able to seize command of the lead, and after a lengthy stretch duel with Politicallycorrect, he emerged the victor by about 2 1/2 lengths. The final time for 1 1/16th miles was 1:42.84.
Z Rockstar finished third, while Defiant Flyer trailed the field.
