Hot Summer pulled off an upset in the grade III Comely Stakes this afternoon at Aqueduct, rallying up along the rail under Luis Saez to win the one-mile event by two lengths.
Patiently ridden, the filly was along the inside from the start and burst clear of the field turning for home. Her Smile, the second choice, gamely gave chase on the far outside but was no match for the winner. Heavily favored Ava K. tired in the stretch to finish third after making a bold run on the turn. R Holiday Mood completed the order of finish.
The final time was 1:35.58. The winner is trained by David Fawkes.
