It is currently 13 minutes to post time for the grade II Florida Oaks, a nine furlong event in which R Heat Lightning will make her third start of the year.
At two, R Heat Lightning was of grade I caliber, winning the Spinaway Stakes and running second in the Frizette and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She disappointed in her first start of the year, running fourth in the grade II Forward Gal Stakes. However, she rebounded to win the Davona Dale Stakes (gr. II) by daylight under a hand ride. That performance has earned her the status as favorite in today's Florida Oaks.
In a seven horse field, the Todd Pletcher-trainee is currently the 3-5 favorite. It's Tricky, an undefeated filly shipping in from Aqueduct, is the second choice at 8-5. The third choice, Island School, is 9-1. That's how heavily favored R Heat Lightning and It's Tricky are.
