HANSEN WINS THE IOWA DERBY!

1-10 favorite Hansen found his way back to the winner's circle last night at Prairie Meadows, drawing off powerfully in the homestretch of the $250,000 Iowa Derby under almost no urging at all.

Ridden to victory by Ramon Dominguez, Hansen broke quickest of all in the field of five and went straight to the lead, setting fractions of :24.06, :47.51, and 1:11.02 while leading by about a length and a half. Alsvid was racing in second, followed by Hero of Order, Truetap, and Macho Bull.

Turning for home, Hansen began to pull away from the field with ease, and it was quickly clear that he would not be beaten. Hero of Order made a mild bid for second, but he could not even begin to challenge Hansen, who extended his winning margin to ten lengths at the finish. The final time for the 1 1/16th miles race was 1:42.01.

Hero of Order finished second, 3 1/2 lengths clear of Macho Bull. Truetap and Alsvid completed the order of finish. The winner is trained by Mike Maker and owned by Kendall Hansen and Skychai Racing, LLC.
