4-5 favorite Agave Kiss brought her record to an undefeated 3-for-3 this afternoon at Aqueduct, taking the $75,000 Ruthless Stakes over the inner dirt track by four or five lengths.
Ridden to victory by the apprentic jockey Ryan Curatolo -- who may end up taking home the Eclipse award as the nation's leading apprentice rider in just a few days -- Agave Kiss was sent straight to the lead in the six furlong event and led by over two lengths through an opening quarter in :22.62. She continued to show the way around the turn, carving out a half-mile in :45.68. Dance to Bristol and Well Kept attempted to stay with her, but neither could match the 4-5 favorite's strides as the field turned for home. Agave Kiss coasted home unchallenged while under a hand ride, stopping the clock in 1:10.28 while obviously having something left in the tank.
Well Kept stayed on strongly to finish second, followed by Corderosa and Dance to Bristol. The winner is trained by Rudy Rodriguez and races in the silks of Flying Zee Stable. A daughter of Lion Heart out of Salty Romance, Agave Kiss won her first two starts by a combined 16 3/4 lengths and looks like a possible contender for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) if she succeeds in stretching out around two turns.
