Now I Know won for the sixth time in six starts this afternoon at Oaklawn Park, taking the $50,000 Dixie Belle Stakes in gate-to-wire fashion as the odds-on favorite.
Ridden by Perry Compton, the gray daughter of Pure Prize broke quickly and was sent away to lead early by 1 1/2 lengths, running the opening quarter mile of the six-furlong event in :22.21. Sitting in second was Rocket Twentyone, followed by Amie's Dini, St. Louis City, and Coyote Breeze. Now I Know continued to lead around the far turn and into the stretch while running a half-mile in :45.73 and five furlongs in :58.25. Amie's Dini challenged in deep stretch, slowing cutting into Now I Know's lead, but the favorite held on without too much urging to win by 1 1/4 lengths. The final time was 1:10.85.
It was another five lengths back to Rocket Twentyone in third, and another 13 1/2 to St. Louis City in fourth. Coyote Breeze finished last, beaten a total of 27 lengths. The winner is trained by Don Von Hemel and owned by Hemel and Wayne Stockseth.
