RENEESGOTZIP WINS THE SANTA YNEZ STAKES!

Even-money favorite Reneesgotzip powered away in the Santa Anita homestretch to win the $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II) by eight dominating lengths under Corey Nakatani.

Trained by Peter Miller, the daughter of City Zip broke well from gate two in a field of six and quickly took the early lead. Tracking her in second was Rowdy Gal, followed by Candrea, Paint Woman, Made to Love Her, and Lady Hokulea. After an opening quarter mile in :22.31, the entire field was separated by about three lengths. The group remained bunched for the most part around the far turn, with only 45-1 longshot Lady Hokulea dropping out of contention.

Following a half-mile in :45.06, Rowdy Gal and Candrea made simultaneous bids to challenge Reneesgotzip for the lead. However, when Nakatani asked his mount for more run, she responded with an absolutely breathtaking burst of speed that carried her well clear of her opponents. Despite drifting out several paths entering the homestretch, Reneesgotzip continued to pour on speed and drew away to win by a huge margin in the end. She stopped the clock for the 6-1/2 furlong event in 1:15.25.

Made to Love Her put in a good late run to finish second, followed by Painted Woman, Rowdy Gal, Candrea, and Lady Hokulea.
