It's Sunshine Millions Day!

Every year, the best Florida- and California-bred horses gather at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita for Sunshine Millions day, a day of rich stakes races designed to showcase their talent against other state-bred horses. While the format of the championship is slightly different this year, there is nevertheless an impressive series of nine races scheduled for this afternoon -- six at Gulfstream for Florida-breds, and three at Santa Anita for California-breds.

Among the major horses entered are Eclipse award winners Awesome Feather and Musical Romance, in addition to Compari, California Nectar, Pomeroys Pistol, Apriority, Unbridled Humor, Little Mike, Teaks North, Duke of Mischief, Adios Charlie, Mucho Macho Man, and Ron the Greek. And in addition to the three state-bred stakes at Santa Anita, there are also three unrestricted stakes events, including the grade I Santa Monica Handicap and the grade II Santa Ysable Stakes (gr. III). I will be posting the results of these races as soon as possible after they are run, so check back often to see who's winning!

Here are my brief selections for each race:

Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff - Awesome Feather
Florida Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint - Pomeroys Pistol
Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint - Zero Rate Policy
Florida Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint - Unbridled Humor
