HOLLADAY ROAD WINS THE CRYSTAL WATER!

Holladay Road wore down pace-setting Macho Dorado in deep stretch to win the Crystal Water Stakes at Santa Anita Park by two lengths.

Ridden to victory by Rafael Bejarano, Holladay Road settled back in last early on as Bluegrass Reward and Macho Dorado opened up a huge lead on the field while battling through early fractions of :22.22 and :44.97. Legal Seperation was leading the rest of the pack in third, followed then by Thirtyfirststreet, Spud Spivens, and Holladay Road.

Rounding the far turn, the two leaders began to tire and their large lead dimished rapidly. In the meantime, Holladay Road was making a bold run along the inside and was the first to reach the leaders as the field entered the homestretch. Bluegrass Reward threw in the towel quickly, but Macho Dorado surprisingly had something left despite the intense early speed duel. However, Holladay Road was able to wear him down in deep stretch to win going away at the finish, stopping the clock for a mile and a sixteenth in 1:41.25.

Macho Dorado finished second, while Spud Spivens rallied mildly for third. Thirtyfirstreet completed the superfecta.
