Soaring Socks wore down front-running Royal Currier deep in the Gulfstream Park homestretch to win the Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint by a neck.
Under John Velazquez, Soaring Socks settled back into third early on as Royal Currier opened up a sizable early lead on the field. Madman Diaries was back rating in second, while favored Apriority was racing back in fourth on the outside of Zero Rate Policy. Ribo Bobo was down in between horses in sixth, while Cajun Breeze and It's Never Too Late trailed the field.
Royal Currier led the way down the backstretch and around the turn through fractions in :22.02 and :44.19. But Soaring Stocks was on the move and as the field turned for home, he was right in contention to try and wear down the leader. Apriority and Zero Rate Policy were attempting to swing into contention on the far outside, but neither was moving strongly enough to be a threat for the win.
Inside the sixteenth pole, Soaring Stocks took the lead from Royal Currier and appeared to be on his way to victory, but Cajun Breeze was closing strongly in between horses and almost got up to win, but Soaring Stocks held on for a gritty victory in 1:09.49.
Cajun Breeze got up for second over Royal Currier, with Zero Rate Policy finished fourth. It's Never Too Late, Madman Diaries, Apriority, and Ribo Bobo completed the order of finish.
