Mark Valeski made a sweeping bid around the turn to win the $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) in game fashion over a determined Right to Vote.
Ridden to victory by Rosie Napravnik, Mark Valeski settled about four or five lengths off of the early pace set by 47-1 shot Right to Vote, who ran the opening quarter in :22.71 and the half-mile in :45.35 while leading by a length over The Lumber Guy. Le Bernardin was racing in third on the outside, followed closely by Big Screen, Hakama, and Mark Valeski. Master Rick and Good Morning Diva were next, while Summer Front and Street Life were the early trailers.
Right to Vote continued to lead the way around the turn, cutting out three-quarters of a mile in a stiff 1:09.52. Then Mark Valeski made his bid, sweeping around the turn while racing four wide to confront Right to Vote for the lead entering the homestretch. Right to Vote dug in gamely, but the results were never really in doubt, as Mark Valeski coasted through a mile in 1:34.92 before completing the nine-furlong race in 1:48.31.
Street Life rallied from far behind to finish a close third, while Good Morning Diva rounded out the superfecta. The winner is owned by Brereton C. Jones and trained by Larry Jones.
