DRILL WINS THE LAZARO BARRERA STAKES!

Drill won the third sprint stakes of his career this afternoon when he rallied gamely in between horses to score a narrow victory in the $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Stakes (gr. III) at Hollywood Park.

Under a perfect ride from Martin Garcia, Drill settled into third place early on in a four-horse field as American Act set a pace of :23.52 and :46.92. Gun Boat, Drill's stablemate, was racing about a length behind in second, while longshot Boompa trailed the field.

Rounding the turn, Gun Boat moved up to challenge American Act for the lead. In the meantime, Drill was patiently waiting behind them, searching for a seam. In the homestretch, he found it. Diving for an opening in between American Act and Gun Boat, Drill rallied strongly to get up for a half-length victory over American Act while stopping the clock for seven furlongs in 1:22.88.

Gun Boat finished another half-length behind in third, while Boompa trailed the field. The winner is trained by Bob Baffert and owned by the partnership of Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman.
