2012 Preakness Stakes Update #2

The fifth race of the Preakness day racecard is in the history books, with slight favorite Wire Funds overcoming post thirteen to win the five-furlong sprint in excellent fashion.

The next race on the card is the second stakes race of the day, the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes for three-year-olds. A six-furlong sprint, the undefeated Innocent Man is the current favorite at 7-5. In his two starts to date, he has run the opening quarter each time in :21.48 seconds, and last time out, he ran the half in :43.22 seconds. With that kind of speed, it's very difficult to see him getting beat. However, Pimlico hasn't been all that kind to speedy front-runners during the last coupe of days, and while those kinds of runners have been able to win some races, it's possible that Innocent Man will set a fast pace and tire late. In that case, Il Villano should be ready to take advantage of the situation under jockey Jose Flores.

A pair of jockeys that will be riding in the Preakness Stakes later today have mounts in this race. Joel Rosario, who will guided Creative Cause in the feature, will be aboard Innocent Man. Optimizer's rider, Corey Nakatani, will be aboard Laurie's Rocket.
